Water/Flood/Sewer Backup Damage - Restoration Procedures

Effect of Abnormal Water

Water can be a very destructive substance in the indoor environment, both in terms of direct physical damage and health implications. When water damage occurs, quick reaction can save or reduce physical damage and reduce possible health hazards. The longer water damages goes untreated, the greater the damage. Immediate response saves time and money while protecting property and health.

As water evaporates it causes abnormal humidity levels that can lead to secondary damage involving otherwise unaffected property.

Initial Assessment

The origin and category of the water as well as its path of travel through the structure are evaluated. Potential resulting damage is assessed, with all structural components and contents considered.

Water Removal & Drying

Removal and extraction of standing water proceeds immediately. Furniture and contents may be moved or removed to protect from further damage. If required, floor covering materials may be removed. All effected surfaces are treated with either a sanitizer, microbiological inhibitor, or both, to kill or inhibit the growth of microorganisms. Drying equipment in the form of high-speed blowers and/or dehumidifiers are installed and positioned to quickly dry down the entire structure.

Repair & Restoration

Once the premises are clean, dry and sanitary a damage assessment is made to determine what repair and restoration may be required. Once additional areas of damage are determined and addressed, repair and restoration can proceed. Because of its very nature, the full extent of damage due to the intrusion of water cannot always be determined at the onset.

The assessment and restoration of damage can be an ongoing process, and one that takes time to complete. "Disaster Restoration" is typically more involved and complicated than new construction.
